We finally have got to know what Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will look like in Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation. Henry Cavill (Geralt) has shared the first looks at Netflix’s The Witcher on Instagram.
The Revealed Looks
The actor will portray the character of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in the televised adaptation of the popular fantasy saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski, which is expected to hit screens later this year. The popular franchise was skyrocketed after it was adapted into a trilogy of video games by developers CD Projekt Red.
The shots also came alongside a poster-style image of Geralt facing the horizon, with the tagline, “The worst monsters are the ones we create.” You’ll notice Geralt only has a single sword on his back, rather than the two you’re likely accustomed to seeing him carry in the video games. That’s likely because, as in the books, his second sword is stored on his horse, Roach, although we don’t see that in these first photos.
The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has previously revealed the Superman actor was the first choice to play Geralt, and now, we can definitely see why.
Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer and Freya Allan as the princess Ciri, both looking ready to embark on an epic fantasy quest. Both actress are newcomers, at least compared to the franchise-seasoned Cavill, but take on important roles in the story of the Witcher.
The Witcher is planned for late 2019, and more is certain to be revealed at the show’s Comic-Con panel later this month.
