Squadron 42 is a story campaign of the Star Citizen space simulator, the beta version of which was supposed to start in the third quarter of 2020 (and several times earlier). If you look closely at the calendar, you will notice that the authors are a little late. Well, as “a little”…
q & a session dedicated to the eighth anniversary of Star Citizen, the head of Cloud Imperium Games Chris Roberts (Chris Roberts) said that the “beta” Squadron 42 will have to wait. How long, he did not specify — apparently, testing will not be launched until the end of the year.
You’re not really asking about what we’re working on in Squadron 42 — you just want to know when it’s coming out. Best answer to your question: Squadron 42 will be released when it’s ready. We are not rushing to any date — the release will take place when all the technical part and content will be finished, polished and fully playable.
I don’t want to compromise by creating a game that I believe in with all my heart and soul. And while everyone (including me) wants to release Squadron 42 as quickly as possible, it would be a huge disservice to everyone who is really working hard on the project, and to all of you who are looking forward to something really cool from the game.
Roberts added that the development of large and ambitious games rarely goes according to plan, so transfers in their case are quite natural. As an example, he cited Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077, which were also repeatedly postponed.
In the near future, the Studio promises to publish a plan for further development of Squadron 42.
