People from People Can Fly, the developers said in a note to investors that they were not paid royalties from the publisher Square Enix, indicating a lack of profitability. These fees were based on net sales from Outriders, if these revenues exceeded a certain agreed threshold with Square Enix. In layman’s terms, people who can fly will receive royalties after Square Enix returns its investment.

In a note to investors, President Sebastian Wojciechowski noted that people can fly,

“We do not have any data on Outrider sales – we estimate them at two or three million units and assume that this is the result that will ensure the profitability of this project in the first quarter of sales. The lack of payment by the publisher probably means that, according to Square Enix, this is not the case.”

The key takeaway that Outriders have may not have been profitable. Sebastian added,

“Failure to achieve a level of profitability may also mean that the costs incurred by the publisher are higher than expected…But I don’t want to speculate, we will analyze the situation further. However, it is worth noting that such explanations take time, and our influence on the publisher’s position is limited.”

This follows the May news in which Square Enix named Outriders as its ” next big franchise” after a report of 3.5 million players who went to the races. The latest news reports that the upcoming patch will improve all classes, providing several improvements across the board.
