New multiplayer game for Dragon Ball is coming
Publisher Bandai Namco has announced a new multiplayer game – Dragon Ball: The Breakers (PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch). This time it’s very different from the other Dragon Ball games.
Bandai Namco surprisingly released a trailer for a new game from Dragon Ball today. Behind it are again the developers of DIMPS, who were also responsible for previous titles such as Xenoverse, Budokai 3 or Burst Limit.
When and for which consoles will the game be released? Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be called the new asymmetrical action game and will be released in 2022 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. It is noticeable that only the last-gen consoles are explicitly mentioned here. A release for Xbox Series or PS5 is currently not known. An exact date was not given, but there will soon be an open beta for testing. Bandai Namco announced this in their trailer.
This “Dragon Ball” game will not be a fighting game, but a survival game
Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be very different from its predecessors: Otherwise you had to fight each other in online multiplayer, now you should survive together or alone – similar to the game Dead by Daylight.
You find yourself with 6 other players, due to a time phenomenon, in a world where you as civilians have to flee from a robber. The aim of the game is to find a time capsule alone or together and to escape with it from this period into your normal world. All players have to hide on a large map with various areas and proceed strategically to escape the robber.
What can the robbers do? Robbers have the ability to use incredible powers to track down and destroy civilians. The predators can develop and develop their strength during their hunt, similar to the multiplayer shooter Evolve.
The Hunters come as iconic characters in Dragon Ball: The Breakers and you can choose one of them:
- Boo
- Cell
- Freezer
All three are perfect for the aforementioned advancements, as they have reached different forms in the anime and manga as well.
Exactly what skills the robbers have has not yet been disclosed. In the trailer you can only see the attack “Kame-Hame-Ha” and that Cell can typically suck up civilians with his tail.
What can civilians do? Civilians receive unique power-ups and items to help them stand their ground against the robber. This includes things like
- Vehicles
- weapons
- and climbing hooks
The normal citizens appear in the form of well-known characters such as Bulma or the pig Oolong.
Civilians and robbers both have the opportunity to personalize themselves in the form of skins. They can also choose and activate their own development paths and skills.
Fans react with mixed feelings. Nobody saw Dragon Ball: Breakers coming and accordingly the reactions are clearly mixed. While some are still completely confused by the new breed, others are already hyping or complaining in the comments section of the trailer (via YouTube).
