Naoki Yoshida’s next-gen project, perharps the next Square Enix MMO?

PCGamer reported yesterday that Naoki Yoshida, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, has finished early his “next generation project” development and now is moving towards large scale development. It still unsertain what this “next generation project” is, but players assume that it will be the next Square Enix MMO because the same team responsible for this new title sent out a survey asking Final Fantasy XIV fans what they would like to see in the next Final Fantasy MMO.

The studio that develops the new project is the company’s “3rd Development Headquarters”, which also works on Final Fantasy XIV. The 3rd Development recruitment page reads “This project has already finished its initial development, has finished developing its development environment, and is now shifting to a full-scale large-scale development phase.”

So. maybe it’s a new Final Fantasy MMORPG? Or for something else we wait? In any case, I’m excited to know more. I look forward for E3 in June, 2019, we will probably hear something there.

Just an assumption.

I think this new next gen project might be a mobile MMORPG in the Final Fantasy universe. Why are people assuming this project won’t be a successor to Final Fantasy XIV? Probably Naoki Yoshida’s comments about they don’t want to compete with their own game, creating another MMORPG. A mobile one won’t be a competitor to Final Fantasy XIV and still fits the timeline regarding a last year survey’s new Final Fantasy MMO.
