League of Legends suddenly releases a classic RPG

Riot Games, the makers of League of Legends, have released a new game in the LoL universe. Yesterday, November 16, 2021, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is available for PC (Steam, Epic & GOG), PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

What kind of game is this? Ruined King: A League of Legends Story tells the story of the champion Miss Fortune, who explores the bilge water with a crew and sets off for the shadow islands.

The aim is to uncover the secrets of the “Black Fog” and the eponymous king, who can be played as Viego in League of Legends. In addition to Viego and Miss Fortune, some other well-known champions make their appearance:

  • Brew
  • Illaoi
  • pike
  • Yasuo
  • Ahri

Ruined King is a classic, turn-based single player role-playing game in the style of the old Final Fantasy parts or other J-RPGs. It’s also somewhat reminiscent of the modern Banner saga. It was developed by the indie studio Airship Syndicate (Darksiders Genesis, Battle Chasers: Nightwar).

The publisher is Riot Forge, a company within Riot Games. Riot Forge unites different developers under one patronage and enables them to realize their ideas – similar to the EA Originals. Ruined King is the publisher’s first game.

Ruined King is out now for Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

These are the features: The gameplay looks like a mixture of Diablo and Final Fantasy in the first few pictures. You explore the world and its dungeons, but fight turn-based against groups of opponents.

Each character has unique abilities, which are apparently based on the skills from League of Legends. For example, Miss Fortune can fire her hail of bullets and Braum protects the troops with his shield.

As the name suggests, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is likely to be a story-driven game. So the greatest emphasis is certainly placed on the narrative and that you discover the story of the game for yourself.

When and where can I get it? Ruined King has been playable since today, November 16 at 5:15 p.m. CET. The game was released for the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

On the PC you have the choice whether you want to play on Steam, GOG or Epic. The PS4 version will later get a free upgrade for the PS5. If you buy the game for Xbox One, you can also play on Xbox Series X | S through Smart Delivery. The next-gen versions will appear at a later date.

League of Legends is currently experiencing a new hype and an upswing with the release of Arcane, the animated series for the game. Accordingly, the time is ideally chosen to release Ruined King.

If you haven’t decided yet whether to try this new RPG game, you can play games such as Elder Scrolls Online and Destiny 2.
