Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black are thrown into another crazy adventure in the first trailer for Sony Pictures’ Jumanji: The Next Level. The film is the sequel to 2017’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” a surprise Christmas smash hit that went on to earn $404 million in the U.S. and a huge $964 million worldwide.
The trailer dropped this week, and it turns out The Rock has been tasked with playing some kind of Danny DeVito.
All The Switches
In a comedic twist, the preview features Johnson’s avatar repping for Danny DeVito, who plays the grandfather of the now-missing Spencer (Alex Wolff). Hart, meanwhile, seems to have been taken over by Danny Glover. That leaves lots of room for old-people jokes. “Are we in Florida?” Johnson asks.
Karen Gillan also returns, among others, and “Crazy Rich Asians” star Awkwafina is one of the new additions.
Welcome to the Jungle wasn’t exactly the most revered movie by critics. However, it was never intended to be. The new Jumanji movies know exactly what they are and exactly who will go and see them. Plus, if a new Jumanji movie alone isn’t enough, Jumanji: The Video Game will also be released ahead of The Next Level’s hitting theaters later this year.
