Like so many new games about to be released, Diablo 2 Resurrected is struggling with a number of server issues. The developers announced maintenance work on Twitter to fix problems with game creation and the characters.
Update: The maintenance work took a little longer than planned, but Blizzard Customer Support has now announced on Twitter that the servers should be available again for all regions. The server problems should now be resolved and players should be able to access their characters again. Rod Fergusson, Executive Producer of Diablo 2 Resurrected, commented on the problems:
“There were a lot of players online, which is great, but it was a challenge for the servers, which exceeded our tests. We know that a lot of players are still affected, so we are actively building capacity and will continue to do so for a long time until it’s better. This could involve multiple reboots. “
Hopefully the majority of the problems were resolved by this rather lengthy maintenance. Blizzard probably (again) did not expect the large number of players who wanted to play the action RPG for release.
Original message from September 23: Diablo 2 Resurrected, the relaunch of the 2000 action RPG, was finally released today. Many players were looking forward to immersing themselves in the world of Diablo 2 again and experiencing, full of nostalgia, everything that made the title so great at the time.
As is the case nowadays, especially with games with an online component, Diablo 2 is also currently suffering from some problems at launch. For one thing, the servers are currently completely overloaded and many players on Reddit report that they cannot log in. The title also offers an offline mode, but this too is probably not accessible if a connection to the servers cannot be established.
Furthermore – and much worse – the characters are likely to be deleted by players as soon as they finish the title. Some players on Reddit are a little understanding here. Since there are server problems, it would make sense if online characters are deleted, since the save states of these are on the Blizzard servers.
Unfortunately, however, this problem affects not only characters online, but also those that are played offline. Some gamers are already joking that this is the real hardcore experience. As soon as the game ends, your character ends up in the graveyard. This would make a particular success, which is only for true pro gamers, even more difficult.
Numerous memes are also shared on Twitter that this is a classic Blizzard launch, as communication with the server keeps failing and players simply cannot play the title. The team behind Diablo 2 Resurrected has already spoken out and announced maintenance work. These should last about 30 minutes and address the problems with the game creation and the characters.
Hopefully, at the end of this maintenance, any lost characters will be restored, both online and offline.
