Square Enix has reported that Final Fantasy XIV suffered from a series of DDoS attacks yesterday, June 28th, that saw the game’s North American servers go down for a few hours. This isn’t the first time the MMORPG has been targeted by DDoS attackers but it’s been quite a while since the last time they successfully managed to bring servers down.
The Caused Issues
It’s primarily been affecting with login problems, disconnection issues, and in-game data loss abounding for the duration. In the announcement post, Square Enix says “We are looking into the way attacks are being made and taking countermeasures. More information will be provided as the situation develops.”
This is all what we know for now. This attack comes just a few days before the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, the latest expansion for the hit MMORPG. The expansion is looking to be a pretty massive one on its own, taking players to a new area as it allows them to become the Warrior of Darkness.
