Bethesda names release windows for Elder Scrolls 6

In a long interview, the design director of Bethesda, Todd Howard, gave an outlook on when the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 could be. He mentions “15 to 17 years” after the release of Skyrim as a possible period, which would put the release period for the new Elder Scrolls at 2026 to 2028.

Where is the information from? The site GQ-Magazine wrote a big special about the Xbox and its boss Phil Spencer. One of the accompanying interviewees was Todd Howard, the design director at Bethesda.

That’s much later than the “optimistic estimates” by fans and gaming sites that are assuming 2024. According to Spencer’s earlier statements, some had corrected their expectations to “2026 at the earliest”. Apparently it could be even later.

Although the statement is not a literal quote from Howard, it is clearly associated with him in the article. The “calculation” is that Starfield will be released in 2022 and that the team is apparently planning 4-6 years of development time for The Elder Scrolls 6, the next project.

The Elder Scrolls exclusively for PC and Xbox

What does Phil Spencer say about Elder Scrolls 6? Xbox boss says Bethesda’s next game, Starfield, is slated for 2022. The game will be released exclusively for PC and Xbox. Phil Spencer intends to do the same for The Elder Scrolls 6. You can use all the features of the Xbox: Xbox Live, Game Pass, cloud gaming, friend lists and save states.

What else does Howard say about The Elder Scrolls 6? Not that much anymore. According to Howard, Starfield’s technology will be used to develop the technology and next-gen features for The Elder Scrolls 6.

The internal expectations of The Elder Scrolls VI are high, after all, Skyrim was a “game for a decade.” It would drive you crazy if you had to outperform Skyrim with Elder Scrolls VI.

But: the players should play it for a long time. At Bethesda, you ask yourself: How do you make a game when you go in with the idea, “People have to play this for a decade”?

And while we’re waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI, it’s time to get acquainted with The Elder Scrolls Online, if you haven’t done it before. ESO is an MMORPG developed by ZeniMax Online Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
